socket wrenchWelcome to Wrenches.com, your guide to an essential tool for households and professionals: the wrench, also generally known in British English as a spanner. While wrenches are some of the most common tools used in many different fields, in households as well as industrial applications, there are few one-stop, comprehensive resources on the Internet about the use of wrenches, as well as the many different types of wrenches that exist, each for different purposes. This website attempts to remedy that by offering this guide, particularly useful for those who are not familiar with the wrench and different wrench types and uses.

On this website, you can find out about what wrenches, and their general uses are. Could you tell the difference between a hydraulic torque wrench and a pneumatic torque wrench? Do you know what an adjustable wrench is? Or what systems of measurement different wrenches use? (I’ll give you a hint here: there are metric wrenches, as well as those manufactured according to the American standard of measurement.) Does the term “Stillson wrench” sound familiar to you? Do you know what an impact wrench is?

While there are many different wrench types, this website will deal more specifically with three of the most common types of wrenches: the torque wrench, which is used to set the torque of nuts and bolts; the impact wrench, also known as an air wrench or a torque gun, which is powered and has a high torque output; as well as the pipe wrench, also known as the Stillson wrench after its inventor, which was patented in the U.S. in the second half of the 19th century and is one of the most commonly recognizable wrench types.
